State Fair
Guess who opened the Colorado State Fair. Hoobastank. Hooba-stinky-stank. Hahahahaha! Get New Pornographers, Dungen or Missy Elliott to open and I'll rush on down to Pueblo and meet you.

Grayskul plays at the Larimer Lounge tomorrow. ... Here's something weird. Best Buy over there near Colorado and I-25 is having local bands play at noon tomorrow (Saturday). Perhaps these things are normal, but strip malls and traffic keep me away from that whole area, so it's news to me. Qwest is a co-sponsor. At least it's free. Le Boom is supposed to play. ... Danger Girl bass player Richard Castaldo (see "Bowling for Columbine") is moving to California. Danger Girl says he's going to go back to school and get into the music scene there. ...

Where's George
We've been touched by the Where's George project!
We wouldn't have known except the dollar bill we got as change from the coffee shop at 16th and Blake was stamped with the project's name. We entered the bill's serial number into the Where's George Web site and figured out our dollar bill was once used to pay at a lemonade stand in someone's yard and it also visited the Waterfront Restaurant in Maui. I wish I had visited the Waterfront Restaurant in Maui.

Ten pins
Lucky Strike is naughty! Went bowling there in the Denver Pavilions last night (104, yessss!) Usually when I go, the ladies bathroom is completely empty, but last night it was full. I went in a stall and while nature called, I happened to glance down at the shiny, shiny black floor, and it had been scrubbed so clean, you could see the reflections of all the ladies next to you, also with nature calling. Naughty!

One part creepy, one part cool
I checked out Amazon's new map gadget http://maps.a9.com as part of research for work. If you live in one of a select 20 cities or so (including Denver), you can punch in an address on the web site (don't forget to include the city and state) and street-level photos of that address or neighborhood will pop up. Kind of cool, until my coworker noticed that the picture of our office includes her car. And the photo was taken without her knowledge by the maps.a9.com crew, a team of photo snapping people.

Pimp the Prelude
The last post mentioned dad's choice in news anchors, so here's another quick dad story. He gave away his nearly 20-year-old rusty Honda Prelude to charity last winter, only to tell me months later, "I wasn't thinking. I should have tried to get it on `Pimp My Ride.'" Dad, 61, wanted to put a pinball machine in the trunk. Could have been groundbreaking television.

Peter Jennings
The world loses a stately Canadian. Peter Jennings, my dad's news anchor of choice, died Sunday night. He announced he had cancer in April. ABC immediately cut to a news special with video clips from Jennings' career, delaying the local news on the ABC affiliate in Denver. ABC News posted the update on its Web site and had a full-blown feature there for the next morning.

Hobbs watch
THE HOBBS, NM INTERVENTION, 1515 MARKET ST. --- TONIGHT
The Hobbs, N.M. Intervention is infiltrating LoDo (here in Denver). Not so long ago Aaron Hobbs was downing Long Island ice teas at 1515 Market St. Tonight he's there to play some tunes. It's not to be missed. I will be working tonight to pay off my last vacation, but if any of you go to the show and want to comment on how it was, please do. Toodle-loo

Conner
Conner, featured in a previous print edition of Delicatessen, just did a four-date mini-tour opening for The Killers. Nice gig, boys. They've finally stuck themselves up on MySpace, but they also have their own site with music clips and everything.

Fightin' words
One of the Denver rags called an article I wrote "puffy." The author went on to use some hard, cold non-puffy facts that first appeared in MY reporting for their own article. Perhaps they are upset that I wrote my piece back in April, and they just ran theirs _ in JULY.
