Denver Restaurant Week :: Duo

So where are YOU going for Denver Restaurant Week? A foodie friend was in town so tonight a group of us ended up going to Duo Restaurant, across from Pasquini's on 32nd and Zuni. It's a great place to try, since the pastry chef is a Beard award nominee this year. Duo is offering a special, three-course prix fixe menu, with choices of appetizer, entree and dessert, but it also offered two specials (flatiron steak from the regular menu and a salad special). Surprisingly, Duo also had a few special offers on wine from the drink menu, so a glass of those wines was just under six bucks (the other wines are listed at around $9 and up per glass). Our group of six all ordered from the prix fixe. So among the apps, the fritto misto was lovely. I ordered the braised pork entree _ the meat was so tender! But I think I may have liked the cod entree even better. It was tasty, light, perfectly cooked. The chicken entree was a bit dry. The other option is curried cauliflower. The dessert options are very different from each other but both amazing. I tried the toffee pudding with pecans, which comes in a very decadent, delicious sauce. The other option is a lemon and caramel "tart," which is light and spring-like. Typically, Denver Restaurant Week can be a bear for staff, who are just shoveling out food for a never-ending stream of customers, but our server was cool and collected, and we weren't rushed out the door. In fact, we stayed about 2.5 hours. Just one snafu, with a wrong beer that was delivered, but a minor quibble. Also, if you get there early, Duo still does a happy hour at the bar, so beers are $2, wells are $3. Anyway. There's still two more weeks to try Denver Restaurant Week spots. I'm eyeing Baur's Ristorante...
