Ang Lee nominated

Ang Lee and his movie "Brokeback Mountain" pick up a load of Oscar nominations. How many nominations do you think will turn into wins? The nominations include best director, best film, best actor (Heath Ledger), best supporting actress (Michelle Williams), cinematography.

This has nothing to do with Ang Lee, but UMass, like CU, is trying to curb binge drinking. You know what that means in Amherst? No funnels. And no 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Story

Big fat burritos aren't the only thing the Denver-based chain Chipotle has going for it. Check out the IPO

Beating gridlock

Where we live, you can't drive in an HOV lane if you're by yourself and don't have a hybrid. Today Westminster police arrested a guy caught driving alone in an HOV lane with a mannequin dressed up like a passenger. Busted!

Some people are richer than I am

Nike's CEO has resigned over differences with Nike founder Philip Knight.

"Nike will pay Perez $4.5 million in salary and bonus, and buy his Portland house and reimburse him for remodeling expenses, to the tune of about $3.6 million, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission," according to AP.

Broncos skiing

It was a crowded day on I-70 from Denver to the ski resorts today. Just about everyone wanted to get their ski on Saturday instead of trying to ski before the AFC championship game Sunday. That meant crowded parking lots at the Morrison exit, where carpoolers left their vehicles, crowded frontage roads as people tried to avoid the parking lot on the highway, and crowded parking lots at the resorts. Wish I could've taken a photo for you while I was driving, but that would have led to certain death.

More evidence, as if you needed it, that exercise (and a regular crossword!) is goooooood for your mind and body. Story.

Seth Green, Dave Chappelle

My friend designed the Web site for actor Seth Green. And I just learned today that a friend of a friend's friend was a writer for Seth's new TV show.

Also, a friend travelling in Ecuador as part of a Spanish immersion experience says she ran into Dave Chappelle there randomly at a store and helped him talk to the locals.

We will slowly meet the whole world, six degrees at a time

  • Cat-a-Tac, on woxy.com, 2 p.m. MST Thursday. They're from Colorado....

  • For the first time in three years, the Denver Broncos don't have to face the Indianapolis Colts in the first round of playoffs. So will this be the year the Broncos finally win a playoff game? The Broncos have already made it farther in the postseason than in the past two years, when the Colts ended their season in embarrassing fashion. This year, they face the Patriots, who are 10-0 in their last 10 playoff games. You be the judge. Any bets????

  • CCS and KW in Denver are still both in PR, but they're no longer partners in their own public relations firm. That didn't last long.

    Snow

More great snow in the mountains today. Sure, the wind was blowing, and so was the snow, but if you bundle up, you'd hardly even know it as the snow whacks you in the face as you ride down the back side at Keystone. There was even some powder to be had. It's still snowing up there...Meanwhile Denver: should be 65 degrees on Friday.

spinART (Apples in Stereo, Frank Black) is digitally releasing the Hot IQs music. Good news for the self-described Denver wit-pop trio.
